Vertical Garden

Our Vertical Garden, which has proudly stood on the corner of dr Svetislav Kasapinović street and Cankareva street for the last two years, has been completely rejuvenated on the 30th of May. For this we wish to thank our members and friends for their careful selection of ideal plants for this purpose as well as tidying, fixing and planting and the local community’s selfless voluntarism.

Our action “Do not practice Eco distancing!” wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support from the Foundation “Novi Sad 2021 – European Culture Capital” as well as the plant nursery “Rasadnik cveća” from Sremska Kamenica.

The action, apart from the practical aspect, had an educational goal in mind as well. Volunteers and passers-by got informed on how the Vertical Garden functions, its application and effect, as well as the chance to learn interesting facts about the plants from our Garden.

It is important to note that the Vertical Garden has a comprehensive importance for the environment as well as the local community. Its impact extends wide, from the embellishment of the public space to enabling a natural habitat for birds and insects. We also must keep in mind that the fundamental function lies in boosting the air quality in an urban environment, by increasing the oxygen concentration and serving as a natural defense against various allergens.

What many would underline as the key goal of our action is for the members of the local community to fully comprehend that the Vertical Garden is one of the prime examples of environment conservation in urban communities and feel that all of us, together, must act on expanding and maintaining our small but effective eco oasis!
